Man Charged With Shooting 9-Year-Old On D.C. Playground

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Police in Washington say a man has been charged with shooting a 9-year-old boy in the head on a playground.

The department said in a news release that 27-year-old Kenneth Parker was charged on Friday with assault with intent to kill in the shooting of Jaydan Stancil. Parker was being held at the D.C. jail on unrelated charges.

Police say in October 2014, Jaydan was struck during a gunfight on at playground at the Mayfair Mansions apartments. Two men also suffered gunshot wounds. Officers say the boy was not the intended target.

Jaydan was hospitalized for three months after the shooting.
