Man Charged With Killing Ex-Girlfriend, Setting Fire

OXON HILL, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County Police have charged a man with killing his ex-girlfriend and setting her Oxon Hill apartment on fire.

Officers obtained a warrant on Wednesday charging 26-year-old Maurice Wigfall Jr. of Forestville with second-degree murder and arson in the death of 21-year-old Latiqua Cherry. Wigfall is in state custody on unrelated charges.

Firefighters were called to the apartment building early on May 17 for reports of smoke in a hallway. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and found Cherry's body.

The medical examiner ruled that Cherry died from trauma before the fire was set in her apartment.
