Man Charged In Death Of Hagerstown Woman

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police have charged a Hagerstown man in connection with the apparent slaying of a woman whose body was found along U.S. 40 near Frederick on Christmas Eve.

Frederick County State's Attorney Charlie Smith told The Frederick News-Post that 20-year-old Curtis Evans was charged Friday as an accessory after the fact in the death of 20-year-old Malicia Smith of Hagerstown.

Her body was found early Wednesday along eastbound U.S. 40 several miles west of Frederick.

Police haven't revealed the nature of her injuries.

Evans was being held on $500,000 bail. Neither he nor his lawyer could be reached for comment. No defense attorney is listed in online court records. A man who answered the phone at Evans' home said he didn't know Evans and hung up.
