Man Charged In D.C. Mansion Slayings Has New Attorney
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A man charged in the slayings of a wealthy family and their housekeeper inside a Washington mansion has a new attorney.
Defense attorney Sean Hanover of Fairfax, Virginia, says he was retained on Saturday by the family of Daron Wint.
Hanover entered his appearance in court on Monday and will be at a hearing Tuesday where Wint will get the opportunity to tell a judge who he wants to represent him. Wint had been represented by public defenders.
Wint is charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Savvas Savopoulos, his wife Amy, their 10-year-old son Philip and housekeeper Veralicia Figueroa. Police say Wint held the four victims captive for roughly 18 hours until he was paid a $40,000 ransom, and then killed them and set their house on fire.
