Man Charged After Truck Hit By Train In Frederick

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Frederick County police say a man is facing charges after he tried to drive his truck around railroad crossing gates and was struck by a MARC train.

Police say it happened Friday at around 5:30 p.m. at E. South Street and the CSX railroad tracks near Hamilton Avenue. Police say the train hit the truck and spun it into a pole. The driver then fled.

Police say the truck's driver, 54-year-old Frederick Dell Jackson of Frederick, Md., was later located. Police say he was driving on a suspended Georgia license and that he was charged with various offenses related to the crash.

Police say Jackson was not injured in the crash. The MARC train that hit him had superficial damage. Jackson did not appear to have a listed telephone number.
