BALTIMORE (WJZ)—A man was arrested after authorities say he tried to bring a loaded gun through security at Baltimore Washington International-Thurgood Marshall Airport on Sunday.

TSA officials say the man was carrying a .45 caliber handgun loaded with 9 bullets, including one in the chamber.

"TSA officers detected the gun inside the man's backpack as he entered one of the airport checkpoints," said authorities in a news release.

The man was arrested on state weapons charges. He was originally ticketed to fly to Chicago.

Travelers who bring firearms to the checkpoint are subject to possible criminal charges from law enforcement and civil penalties from TSA of up to $11,000.
