Man Arrested In New York City For Fatal Hagerstown Shooting

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Police say a man has been arrested in New York City for a fatal shooting in Hagerstown last year.

Hagerstown police spokeswoman Heather Aleshire said in a statement Wednesday that Maryland State Police and U.S. marshals arrested 46-year-old Demetrius Wright in Manhattan on Tuesday.

She says Wright is awaiting extradition to Maryland. No defense attorney is listed for him in online court records.

The Hagerstown resident is charged with first-degree murder and other offenses in the Aug. 20 shooting of 41-year-old Antonio Mooney in an alley off Jonathan Street, several blocks north of the downtown area.

Aleshire says she's unaware of any motive for the shooting.
