Man Arrested For Community Center Shooting In Bowie

BOWIE, Md. (AP) -- Police have arrested a man they say shot and wounded another man on the grounds of a community center in Bowie.

Maryland-National Capital Park Police said Saturday that they have arrested 22-year-old Christopher King Jr. of Bowie in connection with Tuesday's shooting at the Huntington Community Center. Police say King shot 23-year-old Melvin Thomas Jr. of Bowie. Police say the two men were neighbors and acquaintances and got into a verbal altercation before the shooting. Police say Thomas is currently hospitalized in stable condition.

Police say King was taken into custody Saturday after he was found hiding in a residence in Lanham. It was not clear if King had an attorney.
