Man Arrested At BWI With Loaded Gun

LINTHICUM, Md. (WJZ) -- A Maryland man was arrested by Maryland Transportation Authority police Tuesday when he tried to bring a loaded gun on an airplane at Baltimore Washington International-Thurgood Marshall Airport.

According to the Transportation Security Administration, agents caught the Fort Washington man trying to bring the .38 caliber semi-automatic handgun loaded with seven rounds through security in his carry-on bag.

TSA officers contacted MdTA police who responded to the checkpoint, confiscated the weapon and arrested the man on state weapons charges. He was supposed to fly to Las Vegas.

On Nov. 20, a Maryland woman was caught with a loaded gun at BWI.

It's the 13th firearm TSA officers have caught at BWI this year and nationwide, TSA officers have found more than 2,000 firearms at checkpoints. That's 10 percent more than in 2013 when TSA agents found 1,813 guns at airport security checkpoints.

Officers also detected two loaded magazine clips in another passenger's carry-on, in an unrelated incident. Police also confiscated those.

Passengers who bring firearms to checkpoints are subject to criminal charges and fines of up to $11,000. Firearms and ammunition are not permitted in carry-on bags, but can be place in checked luggage if they are unloaded, properly packed and declared to the airline.
