Local Charity 'Shootout For Soldiers' Experiences Devastating Fire To RV

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Started by a group of high school students in Maryland, Shootout for Soldiers is a 24-hour lacrosse game benefiting soldiers. The mission of Shootout for Soldiers is to use the platform of lacrosse to engage communities with their local veterans and support their healthy and successful transition into civilian life. By raising more than $500,000 since its inception in 2012, Shootout for Soldiers has helped provide financial, physical, and emotional support and services to United States service men and women.

Unfortunately, the team experienced a devastating fire to their RV earlier this morning, August 2, which caused them to lose everything they had with them on their trip out west. Over the last two months the team has been traveling for Shootout for Soldiers, and been covering their own costs in order to make sure that all the money raised goes directly to those who serve.

"We all lost everything, from our laptops and cameras to our bags of clothes and toiletries. In less than five minutes. The good thing is, we're all OK," wrote Steinhardt.

The RV was both their shelter and transportation. They are hoping to raise money to offset the costs and help with the in-between period before insurance comes through. The goal of $20,000 will not cover personal property lost (multiple laptops, GoPros, drone, TV...) it will help the team execute the last week of the summer tour and get everyone home.
