Local Actor Beaten, Robbed In Silver Spring

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) -- An actor starring in a play at Maryland's Forum Theatre was assaulted in Silver Spring after the opening night of a performance.

According to Forum Theatre's artistic director, actor Frank Britton, who stars as Pontius Pilate in the theater's production of "The Last Days of Judas Iscariot," was assaulted Monday night. Artistic director Michael Dove says Britton was assaulted by four men near a cab stand around 2:30 a.m. and that the men stole his phone and bag.

Britton doesn't have health insurance, so his friends set up a GoFundMe page Tuesday. By Wednesday, they had already raised more than $36,000, way beyond their $3,000 goal.

An understudy will take Britton's place in the play this week.
