Lawmakers to Discuss Md.'s New Languages Proficiency Seal

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Maryland lawmakers and educators are scheduled to discuss the state's new law noting high school proficiency in two or more languages.

State Sen. Jim Rosapepe and Del. Ana Sol Gutierrez are scheduled to take part in the discussion on Tuesday with state educators and advocates.

Gov. Larry Hogan signed the bill into law last week. The bill passed in the state's legislative session with bipartisan support.

It creates a seal for the high school diplomas of high school graduates who have attained proficiency in two or more languages.

Panelists will discuss the increasing demand for bilingual skills in the job market and how the seal will be implemented in local school systems.
