Laurel Man Charged In August Crash That Injured Officer

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Howard County police have charged a Laurel man with driving under the influence in an August crash that injured a police officer.

Rodney Darnell Harris, 31, of Maxwell Court was charged this week with DUI, driving without a license and failure to change lanes for a stopped emergency vehicle, according to police.

Pfc. Joseph Gallina, a 22-year veteran, was conducting a traffic stop August 5 around 11 a.m. on the right shoulder of Route 100 in Ellicott City.

His emergency lights were on and he was inside his vehicle when a Cadillac Escalade driven by Harris left the roadway and struck the rear of the patrol car, police said.

Pfc. Gallina suffered non-life threatening injuries and has since been released from Howard County General Hospital.
