Jason Catania Talks Latest in MLB Trade Rumors

Jason Catania from MLB.com joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to talk about the latest stories in the MLB.

The MLB trade deadline is quickly approaching. Catania discussed the possibility of a major name being moved before the deadline. "I think we'll see a little bit more of these [deals] like kind of what the Red Sox have been doing with getting [Drew] Pomeranz and [Aaron] Hill and those types of players who are upgrades, but they are more incremental-types. We'll see some of those guys and obviously a big name or two will fall at some point."

The New York Yankees enter tonight's contest with the Orioles 8.5 games back in the A.L. East. Catania thinks the Yankees will be sellers at the trade deadline. "Everything that I've heard from Brian Cashman in most interviews he's done it seems like he wants to go down the path of selling off some of these assets…I think it's a matter whether the ownership will get on board."

The Minnesota Twins fired their general manager Terry Ryan today after five seasons with the ball club. Catania explained why the team made the move. "It sort of all went into the tank this year. Ryan has been around forever for that organization. He's been out of the GM job and then came back into it. I think they're in a very cross-hair situation where they need to have some of these young players step up. They've been cultivating this quality farm system the last two or three years and it's now time to see it pan out."
