Jail Inmate's Death In Solo Cell Under Investigation

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The Washington County Sheriff's Office says it's investigating the death of a jail inmate found dead in his cell with a sheet tied around his neck.

Deputy First Class Carly Hose said Wednesday a correctional deputy found 44-year-old Franklin Corun of Hagerstown unresponsive on a bottom bunk bed at 6:35 p.m. Monday, about 30 minutes after he was seen alive during a routine check.

Hose says Corun was housed alone in the cell.

He had been jailed Sunday on charges including telephone misuse and making an arson threat. The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office says Corun had threatened to blow up the county's emergency communications center Saturday.

Corun also faced burglary and assault charges stemming from another incident Saturday.
