It's Official; Orioles Sign Everth Cabrera

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- After a week of waiting the Baltimore Orioles have officially announced the signing of infielder Everth Cabrera to a one year contract.

The shortstop spent his last six seasons with the San Diego Padres making the NL All Star team in 2013.

In 481 career games, he has hit .248/.319/.333 with 12 home runs, 128 RBI, and 136 stolen bases.

In 2013, he set career-highs in batting average (.283), hits (108), and home runs (four), while tying his career-high in RBI (31) before having his season cut short due to a 50-game suspension.

Cabrera could start the season at Triple-A Norfolk depending on his spring performance, but it's expected he will compete with Jonathan Schoop for playing time at 2nd base as well as back-up J.J. Hardy at shortstop & compete with Ryan Flaherty as the Orioles utility man.

To make room for Cabrera on the 40-man roster, OF Alex Hassan has been designated for assignment.
