Inside The Senate Chamber As Gov. Hogan Takes Oath Of Office

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) -- Maryland officially welcomes a new governor.

Vic Carter was inside the State House, where a new era in Maryland is beginning.

It all began early Wednesday morning for Governor Hogan.

He began the day in prayer at St. Mary's Church in Annapolis. Then he made a short trek to the State House, then to the Senate chambers.

That's where the official swearing in took place right at noon in the Senate chamber.

First up, taking the oath of office was Boyd Rutherford, the lieutenant governor. His wife, Monica, held the bible for him.

Larry Hogan then took the oath. His wife Yumi assisted there.

Members of the legislature and former governors were in attendance.

The ceremony was followed by a public program that took place on the west portico.

Afterwards, a reception was held in the lobby of the main portico of the State House.

People were able to file through, grab a little refreshment and then shake hands with the new governor and lieutenant governor.
