Inmate Found Dead In Cell At Md. Jail

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) -- Corrections authorities and the state medical examiner are investigating after an inmate was found dead in his cell at the Jessup Correctional Institution in Howard County.

Thirty-five-year-old Louis Leysath, an inmate who was serving a life sentence for murder, was found Friday morning in a cell filled with steam. Corrections staff performed CPR but were unable to revive the man.

Authorities say the inmate had been housed in a cell by himself, and investigators say no foul play is suspected. Authorities say it is not yet clear whether Leysath's death was an accident or a suicide. Authorities say there was no fire in his cell.

Secretary Stephen Moyer has ordered an administrative review in addition to the death investigation.
