Inmate Charged With Damaging Sprinkler Head

BARSTOW, Md. (AP) -- The Fire Marshal's Office says an inmate at the Calvert County Detention Center has been charged with damaging a sprinkler head and flooding a cell block.

It happened about 6:20 a.m. Wednesday at the jail in Barstow. Authorities say an inmate damaged the fire sprinkler head and activated the fire alarm system, causing the cell block to be flooded. Damage was estimated at $400.

James M. Pickett, 25, has been charged with causing a false alarm and malicious destruction of property.
