Injured Eagle Rescued From Railroad Tracks Is Euthanized
WASHINGTON (AP) — A wildlife rescue group official says a bald eagle that was rescued from railroad tracks near the nation's capital has since been euthanized.
Jim Monsma is the executive director of City Wildlife, a rescue that helped examine the bird. He tells news outlets that the bird had irreparable wing fractures, leaving euthanasia as the only responsible option.
Bald Eagle Rescued From Railroad Tracks, Trains Delayed
The bird was spotted during the start of Wednesday's evening rush on Washington D.C. Metro tracks in Landover, Maryland. It's unclear exactly how the eagle was injured, and District wildlife biologist Dan Rauch says it wasn't injured by a train.
Officials said the bird appeared to be a young, healthy female eagle. It took more than two hours for the bird to be rescued and train service to return to normal.
