Icy Md. Bridge Closed Briefly After 6 Crashes

VIENNA, Md. (AP) -- Officials briefly closed an icy Vienna Bridge along U.S. Route 50 after multiple crashes.

Maryland State Police say there were six crashes Friday morning on the bridge across the Nanticoke River between Dorchester and Wicomico counties near Vienna. No details are available about any injuries in the crashes.

State Highway Administration spokesman Dave Buck says there wasn't any precipitation so officials suspect a flash freeze on the bridge. He says trucks have salted the bridge and it has reopened in both directions.

Buck says SHA also saw icy conditions early Friday on the Malkus Bridge, where U.S. Route 50 crosses the Choptank River near Cambridge, and salted the roadways there.
