Howard County Council to set rules on audits after protest, alleged misuse of library facilities

BALTIMORE - Members of the Howard County Council are working on setting rules for county audits after an uproar over a report into alleged misuse of library facilities.

The auditor's report dated February 14 said his investigation was cut short when the library refused to cooperate.

Members of the community gathered in front of the George Howard Building and demanded that Craig Glendenning be removed over the controversy.

According to Glendenning, his office was looking into allegations that the president and c-e-o of the Howard County library was hosting an October gathering of the local Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, paid for with taxpayer money.

Glendenning said he could not properly investigate after the Board of Trustees chair intervened.

Both the chapter and members of the community are calling the auditor's investigation racially motivated.

A proposal from members of the county council is now calling on the auditor to meet with the Board before council begins its own investigation.

It also requires the auditor to meet with the council before he releases the results of his audit.
