Hospital Service Workers Protest Potential Job Cuts

ELDERSBURG, Md. (AP) -- A group of hospital service workers held a demonstration around an Eldersburg strip mall to protests potential job cuts.

The Carroll County Times (http://bit.ly/1Y3Rnk1 ) reports that the demonstrators protested Gov. Larry Hogan's proposed fiscal year 2017 budget on Thursday. The budget is expected to eliminate 57 food service positions at Springfield Hospital Center.

American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees spokesman Jeff Pittman is concerned that Hogan's budget could eliminate funding for the food service and bring in a private contractor to handle service.

Maniesha Patel, who has served food to patients at Springfield for the past decade, says she is hopeful that Hogan might reconsider his budget if enough business owners and community members reach out to him.
