Horseshoe Casino Begins Hiring Process For Almost 2K Jobs

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Nearly 2,000 jobs are coming to Baltimore this year courtesy of the Horseshoe Casino.

Mary Bubala reports applicants stood in a long line Monday for a chance at a new future in the gaming industry.

The $442 million Horseshoe Casino needs to fill around 1,700 full and part-time positions: dealers, slot attendants, maintenance, valet runners, food and beverage, security and more.

Hundreds showed up and lined up for between two and three hours to get inside M&T Bank Stadium for the casino's mega hiring event.

"It's really about a positive attitude and a great smile and a willingness to provide great customer service. And we will treat you the best we can treat you and you are going to treat the customers right. That's what we are really looking for," said Horseshoe Casino General Manager Chad Barnhill.

Outside, WJZ found plenty of people with a positive attitude and ready to work.

"I have not worked at a casino before but I think gaming and entertainment will be so much fun," said job seeker Penelope Crosby.

The casino teamed up with Baltimore City to get the word out to city residents--and it worked. Hundreds were there with resumes and portfolios in hand.

"Accounting because I'm working on my master's and have 15-20 years in accounting experience," said job seeker Juan Herrera.

"I'm going for security. I like positions with authority," said job seeker Renaldo Hicks.

But once inside, job seekers had to be patient and hope they get lucky and land a coveted position.

"It was pretty good. The people were nice. You have to present a smile and be real happy," said job seeker Kenneth Clemons.

The job fair will also be held Tuesday and Wednesday at M&T Bank Stadium.

Casino construction is moving along and they are on track for an August or early September opening.
