Horse Euthanized After Slipping, Getting Trapped By Snow In Md. Barn

SPRINGDALE, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County fire officials say a horse that had slipped inside a snowy barn in Springdale has died after getting stuck on its side.

Mark Brady, a spokesman for the county fire department, says the 31-year-old horse was euthanized Thursday afternoon after failing to show signs of improvement.

Firefighters were called to the farm Thursday morning after a horse named Robbie slipped and fell and became trapped in the barn by snow.

The firefighters dismantled a portion of the farm to remove the horse and then lifted him upright with the help of ropes and pulleys.

But Brady says the horse's condition didn't improve, so the owner and a veterinarian decided that he should be put down.
