Hiker Rescued From Western Maryland Trail By Helicopter
SANDY HOOK, Md. (AP) -- Authorities say a hiker was rescued by helicopter from a steep trail in western Maryland across the Potomac River from Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.
The Herald-Mail reports that a Washington County Emergency Services supervisor says hikers at the Maryland Heights Overlook found a man face-down about 10 feet below the trail due to a medical emergency on Wednesday.
Maryland State Police say the remote location and steep terrain made a timely rescue difficult on the ground and a helicopter was dispatched.
Police say rescuers on the ground removed the man from a crevasse and he was hoisted from the cliff by helicopter. Paramedics provided advanced life support care as the man was flown to Frederick Memorial Hospital. Police did not have any information on the man's condition.
