High Bacteria Levels Found In Lake Ogleton

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Health officials are warning people to avoid the water near a pier in Lake Ogleton after high bacteria levels were found there.

The Capital of Annapolis reports county health department officials warned residents Friday to avoid the water near the pier. It was the first advisory of the year.

Officials test water at more than 80 sites around the county as part of a water quality monitoring program that runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Gerry Zitnik, who manages the program for the county, says it's not common for high levels of bacteria to be found in Lake Ogleton.

Health Department officials posted warning signs at the pier. They'll return Monday to test the water again.
