A Misuse Of Household Cleaners Causes Evacuation In Cockeysville

COCKEYSVILLE, Md. (WJZ) -- Residents of a Cockeysville apartment complex were evacuated Thursday morning after they complained a gas-like smelled caused them to choke.

Mike Schuh reports that the Baltimore County Hazardous Materials Team arrived on scene at the Cranbrook Hills Apartments in the unit block of Snowdrift Court just before 7:30 a.m., after residents reported they smelled a strange odor in the hallway.

Residents said the "gas" smelled like coffee.

Fifteen people were evaluated for minor respiratory symptoms, but no one was taken to the hospital.

Further investigation has revealed that the incident was caused by the misuse of household cleaners which caused the odor.

Police say all injuries were non-life threatening.

Just after 11:00 a.m. residents of the apartment building were being let back into the building.
