Harvest Moon Appears In October For 1st Time In Nearly A Decade

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- On Thursday night, the sky will be illuminated by this year's harvest moon, and this will be the first time it's fallen in October since 2009.

The harvest moon is the full moon that occurs closest to the autumnal equinox, which was September 22.

Harvest moons normally occur in late September, but this year sky watchers will get to look up at the harvest moon in October.
