BALTIMORE -- Happy birthday, Mo Gaba. The late Baltimore sports superfan would have celebrated his 19th birthday on Sunday.

Mo was an Orioles and Ravens superfan who captured the hearts of Baltimore City and all of Maryland when, at 9 years old, he began calling into 105.7 The Fan to share his knowledge of Baltimore sports.

He battled cancer his entire life before he died on July 28, 2020, at 14 years old. Mo's final bout with cancer spread to his lungs and brain.

The Baltimore sports teams continue to remember the impact Mo had on them.

"You're forever in our hearts, Mo. Happy birthday," the Baltimore Orioles said on social media, sharing an image of Mo with former Orioles star Adam Jones.

The Orioles' annual Mo Gaba Award is given to community members with "outstanding positivity and perseverance."

The last time WJZ spoke to Mo, he had this message for everyone: "If you want to be like me, just be yourself."

A three-block stretch of West Street near M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore is named Mo Gaba Way. Baltimore celebrates Mo Gaba Day every July 28.

Mo was elected to the Orioles Hall of Fame and became the first person to announce an NFL Draft pick while reading it in braille in 2019.

"Celebrating the life of Honorary Lt. Mo Gaba," the Baltimore Police Department said on social media. "Happy Heavenly Birthday."
