Hagerstown, Suns Baseball Team Agree To Lease Extension
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The Hagerstown City Council has agreed in principle to a two-year lease extension with the Minor League Baseball team, the Hagerstown Suns.
The Suns began negotiations with the city Tuesday. The team has tried to leave Hagerstown in the past, but it will now stay in the city for at least two more years.
Municipal Stadium, where the Suns play, has been active since the 1930s and is in need of repairs. The new proposal has the Suns continuing to pay the city $35,000 for rent per year, but it will now be reinvested back into the stadium for improvements.
The city is making amendments to the current lease, which will need to be approved by Mayor David Gysberts and council members before any deal is made official.
