Hagerstown Worker Killed By Exploding Tire

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) --Washington County authorities say a Hagerstown-area machine shop worker is dead after a tractor tire he was inflating exploded.

The Herald-Mail reported Monday on the death of Pablo Juan Martinez, 31.

The sheriff's office says the call came in Sunday from Eastern Trailer Sales on Mount Lena Road.

The First Hose Company of Boonsboro was among the units that responded. Deputy Fire Chief Keith Abrecht says Martinez apparently was kneeling between the tractor's two front tires when one tire exploded near his face.

The Maryland Occupational Safety and Health agency says it's investigating the incident.
