Hagerstown Man Guilty Of 2013 Murder
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Washington County prosecutors say they will seek a 50-year prison sentence for a Hagerstown man convicted of second-degree felony murder.
The Herald-Mail reports that Cory Usher, 37, was convicted after entering an Alford plea Monday in the slaying last year of Steven O'Brien, 26.
In an Alford plea, a defendant doesn't admit guilt but acknowledges the state has enough evidence for a conviction.
Usher was similarly convicted of using a handgun in a crime of violence.
In return for his pleas, prosecutors dropped charges including first-degree murder and armed robbery.
Sentencing hasn't been scheduled.
Police say Usher shot O'Brien in the victim's apartment.
Two other defendants, including a 16-year-old boy, have acknowledged their roles in the incident.
