Hagerstown Alley Renamed For 101-Year-Old Resident
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A 101-year-old Hagerstown woman's name has become a permanent part of the western Maryland city.
The city council voted last week to rename an alley Marguerite Way, after 101-year-old Marguerite Cyr. The alley is located behind the Hagerstown home where Cyr has lived the past 55 years.
The alley was named for Cyr after her daughter, Laura Cyr, petitioned the city and collected signatures from the majority of homeowners that border the roadway. She says she got "100 percent support."
The Herald-Mail reports that Marguerite Cyr is an accomplished artist and community activist.
After hearing of the honor, Cyr said she was surprised and overwhelmed.
