Gun Found In Baltimore's Eastern District Holding Cell

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—A gun has been found inside the holding cell of the Baltimore Police Department's Eastern District.

Police call the finding unacceptable and say an official investigation is underway.

Baltimore Police Department spokesman TJ Smith told our media partner The Baltimore Sun that the discovery was made on Thursday, saying, "We're trying to get to the bottom of it."

This is not the first time a handgun was found in a holding cell. In July, police announced an internal investigation after a gun was found inside a prison cell in the Eastern District.

During that incident, Interim Police Commissioner Kevin Davis told WJZ he believes this was human error and not a problem with policy or procedure.
