Group Calls for Improvements to Congested Interstate 270

GERMANTOWN, Md. (AP) — A public-private partnership is demanding highway improvements to reduce traffic congestion on Interstate 270, between Frederick and the Capital Beltway.

The group held a news conference Monday in Germantown. They're calling themselves the "Fix270Now" coalition, headed by Democratic U.S. Rep. John Delaney.

Delaney is sponsoring a bill to increase federal investment in infrastructure, using revenue from international tax reform.

The group also includes other elected officials from Frederick and Montgomery counties, and representatives from Bethesda-based Marriott International and the American Automobile Association.

The group is pushing for completion of two studies that are needed before improvements can begin.

Republican Gov. Larry Hogan's administration called this summer for firms to submit their ideas for quick, cheap improvements to the highway to aid traffic flow.
