Grocery Store Chain Pharmacy Distribution Center To Close

MILFORD MILL, Md. (AP) -- Grocery store chain Giant Food will close its Baltimore County pharmacy distribution center in 2016, eliminating 89 jobs.

Giant spokesman Jamie Miller says job cuts will take place through mid-February, which is when the distribution center will close.

Miller says that the center, located in Milford Mill, has a total of 89 workers, 61 of them part-time. Miller says most if not all associates will be able to transition to other positions and locations within Giant.

Miller says the cuts were a result of the Landover-based chain's decision to expand its relationship with its pharmaceutical distributor, San Francisco-based McKesson Corp., which supplies stores directly.
