Greenbelt Elects Colin Byrd, 27, City's Youngest Mayor

GREENBELT, Md. (WJZ) -- He's just 27 years old, and now he's the youngest mayor ever elected in Greenbelt.

Colin Byrd, a Democrat and lifelong Greenbelter, was elected Tuesday, receiving a total of 1,769 votes.

Byrd defeated incumbent three-term mayor Emmett V. Jordan by just 95 votes.

"Many thanks to the people of Greenbelt. Many, many thanks to all of my supporters," he wrote on social media Wednesday. "And congratulations to each of my colleagues on their re-elections. I look forward to continuing our shared work together on behalf of the people of Greenbelt."

Thank you, Greenbelt.
