Grand Jury Adds Murder Charges In Christmas Eve Slaying

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- A Frederick County grand jury has added murder to the charges facing a man previously charged as an accessory to a Christmas Eve slaying near Frederick.

The Frederick News-Post reports that supplemental indictments were issued Friday against both defendants in the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Malicia Smith of Hagerstown. Her body was found along U.S. 40 a few miles west of Frederick on Dec. 24.

Twenty-one-year-old Curtis Evans of Hagerstown is now charged with first- and second-degree murder, conspiracy and other offenses. He previously was charged with being an accessory after the fact.

State's Attorney Charlie Smith says newly discovered evidence led prosecutors to seek identical charges against Evans and 20-year-old Neajee Terry. She was previously charged with first-degree murder.

Evans' lawyer declined to comment on the charges.
