Gov. Hogan Hopes To Celebrate Maryland Olympians

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Governor Hogan says he wants to host a celebration of all the Maryland's Olympic athletes.

Speaking to the press after the annual Maryland Association of Counties conference in Ocean City on Saturday, Governor Hogan boasted of the strong performances of Maryland residents at this year's games in Brazil.

The U.S. has won more that 110 gold, silver and bronze metals in Rio this year. Two dozen of the athletes competing  in 14 different sports have ties to Maryland.

This year, Matt Centrowitz from Annapolis won the gold medal in the 1,500 meter race, Angel McCoughtry of Baltimore was part of the women's basketball team that won gold after defeating Spain on Saturday and swimmers Michael Phelps from Baltimore and Katie Ledecky from Bethesda have taken home 11 medals combined.

Hogan did not have further details on the proposed celebration.
