Police: Mother Killed 2-Year-Old Son And Then Herself

GLEN BURNIE, Md. (WJZ/AP) — Police in Maryland say a woman killed her 2-year-old son and then herself.

Prince George's County police said in a statement Sunday that the deaths occurred in a town house in Landover, a suburb of Washington, D.C. They were discovered Saturday night.

Police said the woman and her son died of asphyxiation.

Police identified the mother as 34-year-old Yu Song. Her son was named Joseph Wang. Both lived in Glen Burnie, a suburb of Baltimore.

"I would see her out and about with the son, you know what I mean. She would spend the majority of her time with the kid, so definitely very shocking," neighbor Travis Thomas said. "The husband and the wife, they were very very nice to me."

Police discovered the mother and son after family members called 911. The relatives had asked police to check on them at the town house in Landover.

Neighbors say the house where the victims were found is mostly empty and is listed online as a rental property.

"We don't want that around us, but we can't predict it," neighbor Richard McFarlane said.

The motive remains under investigation.
