Girl,10, Impaled By Metal Bar In Sledding Incident Making A Full Recovery

JARRETTSVILLE, Md. (WJZ/AP)— The 10-year-old girl impaled by a metal bar while sledding Monday is making a full recovery.

The Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company posted the following statement on its Facebook page:

"We were contacted by family of the subject involved in the sledding accident yesterday and was advised that they are home, walking and making a full recovery. Good job to Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company for working together during this unique incident and in adverse weather conditions."

The girl was injured Monday while sledding near the intersection of Anderson Lane and Dulaney Drive.

Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company workers found the girl impaled in the back by a piece of rebar protruding from the ground. It took firefighters nearly 20 minutes to saw through the rebar so the girl could be taken to a hospital.

Harford County public schools were closed before noon Monday because of a winter storm.
