Giant Food Recalls Chewy Bars Due To Listeria Concerns

LANDOVER, Md. (WJZ) -- Giant Food has issued a recall due to concerns of Listeria.

The supermarket is pulling its "Giant Sweet and Salt Almond Chewy Bars" from store shelves.

The following product could potentially be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes:

  • Giant Sweet & Salty Almond Chewy Granola Bars, 12 pack/7.4 oz, UPC 068826709280, with best by date DEC 07 16 and lot code 2151607200.

There have been no reports of illnesses to date.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but fatal disease. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea.

It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths, as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems.

Customers who have purchased the product should discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to Giant for a full refund.
