Ghanian Man Sentenced To 13 Years In Prison For Heroin Distribution Conspiracy

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A U.S. District Judge sentenced a Ghanian man to 13 years in prison for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute heroin in Maryland.

On Tuesday, 46-year-old George Frimpong Ebo-Amissah--also known as "Salifu Abdullah," and "Wagba,"--was sentenced to 13 years in prison followed by five years of supervised released.

According to the plea agreement, Ebo-Amissah was one of the leaders of a conspiracy to distribute heroin in Maryland that began in 2011. He was living in Ghana and arranged couriers who would transport heroin on commercial flights to the U.S.

During the investigation, law enforcement intercepted phone calls between Ebo-Amissah and Nana Boateng, a U.S. heroin trafficker.

In 2011, a courier that Ebo-Amissah hired was stopped after a flight and investigators found 3.3 kilograms of heroin in her suitcase.

Boateng, 34, of Leesburg, Va., pleaded guilty to his role in the conspiracy and was sentenced to 84 months in prison.
