Gansler Proposes Saturday Voting

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler is proposing to expand early voting to open all polls on the Saturday before Election Day.

Gansler made the proposal on Thursday, the same day he filed his certificate of candidacy at the Maryland State Board of Elections with his running mate, Del. Jolene Ivey.

Gansler is running for the Democratic nomination for governor. He says too many Maryland residents face obstacles relating to work, child care and transportation to exercise their right to vote.

Maryland has had early voting since 2010. The primary is June 24.
