Gallardo Rocked In Orioles Debut, Ruf Hits 2 HRs For Phils

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) -- Yovani Gallardo had a rough debut for the Orioles, Darin Ruf hit two homers for the Phillies and a Philadelphia split squad beat Baltimore 8-4 Wednesday.

Gallardo allowed three runs and four hits in two innings. He gave up a pair of doubles and a homer in the first before tossing a 1-2-3 second. The right-hander signed a two-year, $22 million deal with the Orioles after camp opened two weeks ago.

The Orioles are 0-9-1, the only team without a win this spring.

Manny Machado hit his first spring homer, a two-run shot just inside the left-field foul pole off Phillies starter Alec Asher. Xavier Avery added a two-run shot for Baltimore in the eighth. South Korean outfielder Hyun Soo Kim remained 0-fer with the O's, hitless in 21 at-bats so far.

Ruf connected off Gallardo in the first and Vance Worley in the fourth. Ruf hit a two-run homer Tuesday against Pittsburgh.
