Fundraiser Features Civil War Hospital Food -- Tweaked A Bit

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- If this was Civil War hospital food, today's medical centers should take note.

A fundraising feast Monday for the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in Frederick starts with smoked apple pancakes, followed by codfish hash, Irish lamb stew and an almond custard dessert.

French wine, craft beer and spiked apple cider are also on the menu created by local chef Jeff Beard.

Museum Executive Director David Price says the menu was inspired by food served to the wounded. But he says the dishes are interpretations, not recreations, of their historical counterparts.

It doesn't come cheap. The dinner at the Wine Kitchen restaurant costs $95 a head.
