Frostburg State Univ. Receives Biggest Gift Ever: $2.5 Million

FROSTBURG, Md. (AP) -- Frostburg State University says it has received its largest gift ever, $2.5 million from the estate of Cumberland businessman Woodward Pealer.

Interim school President Thomas Bowling says the funds will support scholarships and faculty development at the western Maryland institution.

Pealer died in January 2014 at age 92. He was a decorated World War II Air Force veteran and a former Maryland Tax Court judge.

His business ventures included managing a local Kelly Springfield Tire Co. store in Cumberland, where the company had a manufacturing plant.
