Winter Weather Advisory Through 1 p.m. Saturday

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Wind gusts have died down since yesterday, but bitter cold temperatures aren't going anywhere today as a crippling Arctic blast continues to sweep across the Northeast.

There will be a Winter Weather Advisory in effect for the entire Baltimore region from midnight tonight until 1 p.m. Saturday. There's a chance for sleet and freezing rain during that time.

"Tonight into tomorrow, we're looking at the temperatures staying very cold," WJZ Meteorologist Tim Williams says. "Tonight in the overnight hours we're looking at snow moving into the area, along with some sleet and some freezing rain. That'll start to get here in the wee hours of the morning and then by midday, we can start to see a bit of a transition into all rain. But it's going to take a little while to do that, and as a result we could have a glaze of ice on the road."

Doctors are urging people to stay indoors if possible, because extremely cold weather can prove fatal. Three people died in the city last year due to extreme cold conditions.
