Frederick Won't Increase Recycling Service Pickups

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Recycling trucks won't be going out any more frequently in Frederick.

The Frederick News Post reports the city's Board of Aldermen on Wednesday decided it wouldn't be worth it to increase the frequency of recycling service from twice a month to once a week at a cost of more than $700,000 a year.

Before making the decision officials looked at data, including the fact that about half of the time a county recycling truck stops at a Frederick home, the blue recycling bin isn't out on the curb.

The data showed that homes with bins put them out on the curb at a rate of about 51 percent. The superintendent of the county's Department of Solid Waste Management says that's compared with a countywide rate of about 76 percent.
